Ossus Biorenewables is an energy company supplying green hydrogen to process industries using their wastewater as the starting material and returning treated wastewater free of cost back to industries. Through their work, they have been able to ensure that industries are no longer letting untreated wastewater into local water bodies, but are also reducing their freshwater consumption. This allows water to be available to some of the most marginalized in the country who are solely dependent on these freshwater sources not just for WASH requirements but also for potable drinking water. The OB HydraCel bioreactor technology is a retrofittable hardware device that generates green hydrogen using wastewater on-site at manufacturing plants/refineries. They have been able to start generating green hydrogen for use directly at client sites at the cost of 80c per kilogram, as well as reduce freshwater consumption for industrial use by 55%. The technology has the long-term potential to impact sustainable energy, water treatment, green jobs, and public health ecosystems.
